Leaving a team to become a solo agent is not an easy decision. There are many pros and cons to consider. Here are some questions you should ask yourself:

  1. Are you losing transactions because you’re stuck as a buyer or listing agent?
  2. What do you want your business to look like in 5 years?
  3. Are you staying put because you’re comfortable and afraid of the unknown?
  4. How much have you paid in commission and fees over the last 2 years, and what value did you receive for those dollars?

Jeff went from a barista to becoming a long time buyer’s agent, and now a top producing Icon Agent with eXp Realty. He tells us the story of how he fearfully decided to take the leap after missing out on several listings to his team leader.

Jeff advises us to make sure we’re receiving value for the dollars we are paying to our brokerage. His income nearly doubled when he made the switch. Maybe the final question we should ask ourselves is, “Are we more dedicated to our brokerage than we are to our income and to our individual growth?” Making the change isn’t hard when you’re really ready. At the end of the day, we’re still helping families and serving clients. Just build on what you already know, surround yourself with supportive people, and take action.
