There are good, better, and best practices to using Facebook Live… and some pretty bad ones too

How many of you have watched a Facebook Live video? Have you ever muted Facebook notifications or unfollowed someone after they did a Facebook Live video because their content is boring? Or on the flip side, maybe you religiously tune in to your favorite weekly Facebook Live broadcast because it's always entertaining or educational? Everyday real estate agents are using Facebook Live and some are doing it right, while others seem to have little to no real purpose for their videos.

In case you've been under a rock, in 2016 Facebook launched what they've dubbed “Facebook Live” which is a popular video tool used for live broadcast of users from the Facebook mobile app. Real estate agents use FB Live to get in front of their networks with the goal of capturing their attention with educational, entertaining, or enlightening content. We’ve seen it used many ways, such as promoting an open house to giving a tour of the new local restaurant that just opened.

Like all tools, the way it’s used varies greatly depending on WHO is using it, and HOW they use it. There are good, better, and best practices to using Facebook Live and your understanding can be the determining factor between engaging your followers or worse case scenario, being unfollowed.

Facebook Live expert Trish Leto, founder of “5 Minute Lives” and host of the Expert Connection Podcast joins us and discussed how doing consistent five minute Facebook Live’s is the silver bullet that real estate agents have been looking for to grow their local brand recognition and grow their clientele. As we learn from Trish, you can do a simple 5 minute Facebook Live and utilize the valuable video content across the board by repurposing that video on YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter, or even as a podcast. There are even software tools available, like Repurpose, that will automate some of the sharing to the different platforms for you.

Trish teaches us that the best practices of Facebook Live should always include utilizing the tool to provide followers with helpful information but always incite further engagement. The most valuable thing to do in your five minute Live is to encourage your followers to follow up with you, seeking more details and provoking thought driven questions that they now come directly to you for those answers, as their direct real estate advisor. Whether you’re a Facebook Live pro with dozens of videos under your belt, or you’ve never even done one, you’ll absolutely learn from this episode. I know I did!
What challenges have you faced broadcasting on Facebook Live? What do you love about it? What makes you hide someone's Live feed?
